We are proud to announce that Ms. Drashti Parmar, a doctoral student of Academia Copernicana Interdisciplinary Doctoral School from the Department of Ecology and Biogeography has published an invited review article titled “Blowfly Genomics: Current Insights, Knowledge Gaps, and Future Perspectives” in the prestigious journal Current Opinion in Insect Science (IF=5.8, ranked second in the "Entomology" category, Top 10% Scopus).
The article, co-authored with international collaborators Dr. Nikolas Johnston (University of Wollongong, Australia), Prof. James Wallman (University of Technology Sydney, Australia), and Prof. Krzysztof Szpila (Nicolaus Copernicus University), provides a comprehensive review of genomic data for Calliphoridae (blowflies), a diverse family with critical medical and veterinary importance. The study highlights significant gaps in genomic resources and emphasizes the urgent need for high-quality reference genomes to advance research on systematics, phylogenesis, and evolution.
This publication is part of Drashti’s doctoral thesis, conducted in collaboration with international researchers and funded by the OPUS grant "Reconstruction of the evolutionary course of groups undergoing rapid radiation using different genomes and methods, as exemplified by higher flies (Diptera: Cyclorrhapha: Oestroidea)", led by Prof. Krzysztof Szpila.
Congratulations to Drashti on this outstanding achievement!
